Good morning! Here I am, back from the gym, where I had a GREAT workout.
Before I started on this journey I'd been thinking I should leave out the exercise for a while, in case I was limp and weak from the juicing - but last night I felt amazingly good and energetic, and realised I should totally carry on as normal. Within reason, of course, listening to my body at all times.
The key thing is that I'm FEASTING on juice, not fasting. I'm drinking plenty, and not depriving myself, which hasn't been the case for me in the past, when I've drunk only about 2 quarts of juice, and wondered why I felt so depressed and cold and droopy. So I've plenty of calories, fluids and most importantly, nutrients, vitamins and minerals, phytochemicals and all of the other goodies, and added vitamineral green.
I did a good cardio workout, and felt very good and bright and light - not dragging myself around at all. So as you can see by my picture, I'm feeling a bit smug.
Weight this morning is 65.8 kg (145lb).
Yesterday, as on day one, I noticed that I was a bit low energy and feeling a craving for something sweet around about 4pm, so I made myself a good green mix, with some pineapple in it - delicious, sweeter than the usual, and it really did the trick. It might pay to note that if you are going to mix pineapple with greens, the enzymes in pineapple can very quickly diminish the protein in the greens, so you need to drink it as soon as it's made. Or (a tip from Angela Stokes' great juice feasting book), if you want to make it ahead of time, keep them in separate containers until you're ready to drink them.
I've had absolutely ZERO coffee withdrawal symptoms so far, and fingers crossed, maybe I've escaped them unscathed. I'm very surprised about that, as I've been through it before - nasty headaches and general grumpiness. I also haven't felt hungry or deprived in any way.
My kidneys are working hard at the moment, and I seem to be spending a lot of time popping off to the bathroom - particularly last night, which, while it's a bit disruptive for sleeping, I feel OK about, as I feel as if I'm being rinsed clean, by the juice and all the water.
Yesterday I drank 4 1/2 quarts of green juice, made from collards, celery, cucumber, and romaine, with a little something sweet like a peach or an apple or a carrot, and in my afternoon quart I added quite a lot of pineapple. I also had a chilled coconut water, so my total intake for the day was close to 5 quarts.
I feel GREAT!!!!
But I know I should be expecting some kind of detox symptom soon, so I'll just enjoy this wonderful high while it lasts. And also the gorgeous weather we're having in San Fran right now.
My gorgeous husband arrived home last night bearing gifts of melons, so I'll be tackling those today - skins and seeds and all - they make a great alkalinising juice. Conventional food combining wisdom says melons should be 'eaten alone or leave 'em alone' - ie not juiced with anything else. I worry it might be too sweet on its own. Perhaps I'll live life on the edge and add some greens and see if there are any adverse effects.
Have a fabulous day!
