Information Overload

I leapt into a pool of raw food.  For those unfamiliar with the concept, there's a brief overview here.  I read all the books I could find;  turned my back on meat and dairy.

By this time, career developments had led to the family and I moving to the USA - from our wee village in New Zealand, to Northern California.  While we were settling in, we were enjoying the abundance of fantastic produce to be found under the sunny Californian skies.  It was a perfect time to experiment with the raw food diet.  I literally ate trays of organic strawberries from the Farmers' market.  The discovery of young Thai coconuts was just the best thing on Earth.  The water - so sweet, so healthy - it all seemed too good to be true!  So too, the seemingly Heaven-sent Cafe Gratitude, enabling me to eat cake - CAKE!!!!  The thing I'd been avoiding for what seemed like years of deprivation!!  And of course, as I'd read in all the books and blogs, when on a raw diet, you can pretty much eat what you like, and never get fat!  Yay!

When I was so awash with books that I couldn't read another word, I went to study as a raw food chef, with renowned raw foodist, Cherie Soria, at the Living Light School of Raw Culinary Arts, in Fort Bragg, California.

And it was here, surrounded by real-live raw foodists, that I had the beginnings of my reality check.
